Many players see their 5 digits match the first prize and think they have won the jackpot – only to find the series letters are different. That ticket usually wins the consolation prize.
How the consolation prize works
A Lottery Sambad ticket number has two parts:
- A series – two digits and a letter, e.g. 84L
- A 5-digit number, e.g. 10051
The 1st prize goes only to the one ticket where both parts match (84L 10051). The consolation prize goes to tickets with the same 5-digit number in any other series – for example 12A 10051 or 97K 10051.
How much is it?
The consolation prize amount is fixed by the state lottery department and is much smaller than the first prize. The current amount is shown next to the prize on every result page.
How to check quickly
- Open the result of your draw.
- Look at the 5 digits of the 1st prize.
- If your ticket has the same 5 digits but a different series, you have the consolation prize.
Or simply type your ticket into the Ticket Checker – it recognises the consolation prize automatically.
Can one ticket win two prizes?
A ticket that wins the consolation prize will not also match the 1st prize. Always follow the official rules published by the lottery department for how multiple matches are handled.
